ECHO SERIES - 2021-2022

This is my mixed media breakthrough series. Up until this point, I was making paintings or hybrids, without the direct focus you’ll witness here. This change happened because my process of mixing, integrating, prepping and refining materials became the art form, no longer standing on the sidelines. The process as the primary source was meant to be. The underlay was a lot of happy accidents and hard mistakes like a light, rather than darkness.

What  you may not be able to see are the imperfections in the stitching, forms and other nuances. For example, there are visual, transparent sheaths in the way the paint, stitch work, connecting parts, etc. are interlocked or apart. By letting go of perfection, each piece is an open door to you and for you.

Because of the details being irregular, which comprise the overall effect, this body of work speaks to delving past what you see and into what you don’t know or feel that you are experiencing. For me, being transparent with how I feel is a mixed media approach to attain nothing more than the moment I’m currently in. There are many, many layers underneath and on the surface of each art piece, like there are many layers of life we’ve lived and continue to until we transition again.

Thus, these are less about the material dimensionality and more about the internal dimensions I’m expressing. I thank you for viewing them and look forward to hearing your interactions.
